EXPLORATORY TESTING

Exploratory testing is becoming more and more popular. But for some exploratory testing is equal to unstructured testing. But a lot of testers confuse exploratory testing with unstructured testing. In this workshop the attendees will learn how to structure an exploratory testing session to get the most benefits out of it. You will not only learn how to do an exploratory testing session in theory but you will also prepare, execute and evaluate a structured exploratory testing session in practice.

2. OBJECTIVES

The goals of the workshop is to learn the attendees measure they can take to structure exploratory testing (ET) and prevent ET to decay to unstructured testing. In the workshop different structuring concepts will be explained in theory, you will also practice them immediately. This will be done by testing real life applications. So you will apply the theory immediately, this way we make sure you can apply ET in your organization immediately.

In the workshop you will learn two different variants of exploratory testing: freestyle exploratory testing and session based testing. You will also learn when to apply which way of exploratory testing. In this part you will get a checklist which you can use to decide which way of testing is best for our project.

The combination of theory and practice, as well as the high level of interaction gives this workshop extra value. It makes exploratory testing easier to apply in your project.

3. TARGET AUDIENCE

The workshop is meant for those test professionals (testers, test leads, test managers, test consultants) with knowledge and experience with scripted testing and the desire to alloy exploratory testing. The workshop is extra valuable for those who are in an agile environment (or moving towards that) or test professionals who want to be more flexible in their way of testing

Attendees should have basic knowledge of testing. Subjects like test design techniques, test strategy, test documentation and test planning are considered as known.

4. TRAINER

Jan Jaap Cannegieter has 20 years of experience in ICT, he did assignments in testing, quality assurance, process improvement, requirements, Agile, digitalization and requirements. Jan Jaap is now Principal Consultant at Squerist, a consultancy company of 90 employees specialized in process management and testing, and Test Manager at NEN, the Dutch Normalization Institute. Within Squerist Jan Jaap is responsible for coaching, knowledge management and product development. Jan Jaap is the well-known author of several articles and books in the Netherlands.
